Our Lady of the Nativity Primary School, Lawson is celebrating outstanding academic growth after being recognised among the top performing primary schools in New South Wales for improvements in literacy and numeracy.
In a comparison of Year 3 and Year 5 results (2023–2025), Our Lady of the Nativity recorded an impressive average NAPLAN improvement of 94 points and was recognised by The Sydney Morning Herald as one of the top 160 schools achieving the biggest gains in literacy and numeracy across NSW.
The result places Our Lady of the Nativity among nine Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) primary schools recognised in the list and reflects a strong and sustained commitment to educational excellence across the system.
Executive General Manager – Learning Outcomes, Pat Ellis, praised the accomplishment and the dedication of staff and students.
“We’re so proud of these schools and their excellent NAPLAN results that show significant growth in student outcomes,” Mr Ellis said.
In 2025, CSPD introduced the Effective Learning and Teaching Model as part of its overall Uplift approach to build on strong classroom practice and strengthen explicit teaching strategies through evidence-based research about how students learn best.
With a focus on enriching the lives of students through education grounded in excellence, inclusion and Catholic tradition, CSPD is committed to uplifting teaching and learning outcomes for all 80 schools across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

This week, our students proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week by taking part in a range of engaging activities that honoured the rich histories, cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through art, storytelling, discussions, and hands-on learning experiences, students explored the importance of connection to Country, community, culture, and respect. These activities encouraged meaningful conversations and helped deepen our understanding of Australia's First Nations peoples and their enduring contributions. #cspd2026 #jarara #NAIDOCWeek

πͺ The Chairs Quit! πͺ There was quite a surprise in Stage 1 this week... the classroom chairs decided they'd had enough and quit! To persuade them to return, our students took on the challenge of writing convincing letters explaining why the chairs should come back and how they would be better cared for in the future. This fun and engaging activity gave students a meaningful opportunity to develop their persuasive writing skills while using creativity, empathy, and problem-solving. ππβοΈ Luckily after 2 days, with such amazing writing, the chairs were persuaded to return. The students are remembering to treat them kindly and safely. π₯°πͺ #Stage1 #PersuasiveWriting #LearningThroughFun #CreativeClassroom

What a wonderful community we have! π Our parish, families, teachers, and students have been busily knitting squares, which Miss Mahairas has lovingly brought together to create beautiful blankets for the Vinnies Winter Appeal. Some blankets have already been donated, providing warmth and comfort to those in need during the colder months.
